Funding
Guaranteed Funding
The Department of Psychology offers generous funding packages that exceed the cost of tuition and provide support towards living expenses. Graduate students in Psychology at Western are offered guaranteed funding for 2 years of Master’s and 4 years of Doctoral studies.
All students will be provided information on guaranteed minimum funding for their degree (MSc or PhD) at the time they are offered admission to the program. These minimum funding packages are provided through a combination of internal scholarships (Western Graduate Research Scholarship), teaching assistantships, and/or stipends from supervisor research grants.
Scholarships:
Many of our graduate students have been successful in obtaining additional funding through external scholarship competitions, including master’s or doctoral-level scholarships from SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR, or the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) competition. Supervisor support
In addition to the funding package above, many supervisors provide students who do not have external scholarship support with additional funds in the form of travel reimbursement and stipends.
Additional Awards
Psychology graduate students also have access to a variety of award competitions from the department, university and external sources, which are merit- and needs-based. These can be used to cover additional travel and research needs. Please visit the Donor Awards and SGPS sites to learn more about these opportunities.
