Biographical Information

Dr. Chavarria is the director of the RoAD Lab and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Western University. He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Florida State University, completed his pre-doctoral internship/residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC), and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the UCMC and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. His research uses multiple methodologies to I) uncover risk-factors and mechanisms associated with the development of substance-related consequences and substance use disorders and II) develop and disseminate treatment protocols to reduce/eliminate problematic substance use behaviors, with a focus on marginalized groups.

Research

The Research on Addiction and Disparities (RoAD) Laboratory uses multiple methodologies including self-report, in-vivo (i.e., in-session) substance administration, and randomized controlled trials to I) uncover risk factors and mechanisms associated with the development of substance use disorders and substance-related consequences, and II) develop and disseminate treatments to reduce and/or eliminate problematic substance use behaviors, particularly among marginalized populations.
