Profile

Dr. John Meyer is professor and co-founder of the graduate program in industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology at The University of Western Ontario. His research interests include work motivation, commitment, leadership, and employee well-being. His work has been published in leading journals in the field of I/O psychology, management, and research methods, and has been cited more than 165,000 times (Google Scholar). Dr. Meyer is also author of A Concise Introduction to Workplace Commitments (Edward Elgar, 2025), co-author of Commitment in the Workplace: Theory, Research and Application (Sage Publications, 1997) and Best Practices: Employee Retention (Carswell, 2000), editor of The Handbook of Employee Commitment (Edward Elgar, 2016), and co-editor of Commitment in Organizations: Accumulated Wisdom and New Directions (Routledge, 2009), and A Research Agenda for Employee Engagement in The Future World of Work (Edward Elgar, 2021). He has conduct seminars and workshops in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Dr. Meyer is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, International Association of Applied Psychology, Association for Psychological Science, and the Royal Society of Canada. In 2007, he was recognized by the Canadian Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology for his "distinguished contributions to Industrial-Organizational Psychology in Canada," in 2012 was awarded the Helmuth Prize for Achievement in Research by Western University, and in 2025 was awarded an Honoris Doctorate Causa by the University of Montreal.
