Course Selection

First-year graduate students should meet with their supervisor(s) to choose courses and plan for any first-year milestones.

Upper year graduate students should consult with their supervisory committee to develop a plan of study that is mutually agreed upon by all.

Students can learn of program requirements online:

Course Registration and Deadlines

Please reference the list of important dates on the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website for enrollment deadlines.

Comprehensive Examinations

Comprehensive exams are for PhD students, only. The goal of the comprehensive examination is to provide breadth and depth. Students complete an in-depth study in their subfield of psychology, by working outside their specific thesis topic. It should be possible to complete the exam (including any preparatory study) in one semester

Course Feedback

"Your Feedback" is Western's online system for administering end-of-course student questionnaires on courses and teaching. Your feedback matters!

With your feedback, you contribute to the quality of courses and instruction, by letting us know what is working well and identifying areas for improvement. Also, since student feedback is considered in regular faculty review, including promotion and tenure decisions, it helps the Western community acknowledge outstanding teaching and courses

When the feedback period opens for the term, you will receive emails from the Course Feedback team encouraging you to participate by accessing the student questionnaire through links on OWL and your Student Centre. The Department of Psychology is proud of students’ past participation. In Winter 2018, over 84% of graduate students provided the Department with feedback, well above the university-wide participation level of 58%.

Please visit http://yourfeedback.uwo.ca/students.cfm to learn more about how to participate in course feedback.
