Major and Non-Major Awards

Have you or your colleagues been blown away this past year by the rigour and passion any of your students have exhibited during the completion and defence of their PhD dissertation?

Every year at this time SGPS seeks nominations of recent Ph.D. graduates for Canada’s Distinguished Dissertation Awards (DDA). The Distinguished Dissertation Awards recognize Canadian doctoral dissertations that make unusually significant and original contributions to their academic field. Two (2) awards are available and presented annually – one for engineering, medical sciences and natural sciences, and one for fine arts, humanities and social sciences. The awards are granted by the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies (CAGS) and are sponsored by Proquest-UMI (University Microfilms International). The awards each comprise a $1500 prize, a citation certificate, and travel expenses of up to $1,500 to attend the 2016 CAGS Annual Conference in Toronto, Ontario.
Eligible dissertations are those completed and accepted by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015.

Visit the SGPS Funding Opportunities page for the DDA Nomination and Submission process details. The SGPS deadline to accept complete nominations electronically is Friday, 11 March 2016.
