Welcome!
The Esses Lab for the Study of Intergroup Relations at The University of Western Ontario studies a variety of topics of immediate interest in today's globalized society. Our primary research interests include immigration and cultural diversity; ethnic relations; national identity and belonging; stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination; and dehumanization. The researchers in our lab aim to understand and facilitate more productive interactions between groups through laboratory and field research. Our research is funded by grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, including Standard Research Grants, a Community-University Research Alliance (CURA) Grant, and a Partnership Grant; a grant from the Russell Sage Foundation; and contracts and contribution agreements with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and provincial government departments.
