The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada sponsors a Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) Program to fund innovative training of teams of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows from Canada and abroad. Our mandate for the CAN-ACT is to train junior researchers in computational approaches in sensorimotor neuroscience. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are being recruited from a broad range of disciplines from psychology to computer science, mathematics, and engineering. A team of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will be based in each of the three universities -- York University, Queen's University and Western University. These individuals will also have an opportunity to spend time in research settings in the other two universities. Collaborative exchanges will give trainees an opportunity to acquire new, first-hand research skills that they can apply to their own particular projects. For details on how to apply, see the Jobs & Opportunities section.
August 4-18, 2013. CREATE CAN-ACT is sponsoring the 2013 Computational Sensorimotor Neuroscience (CoSMo) Summer School at Queen's University, Kingston Ontario. The summer school is organized by CREATE PI Gunnar Blohm and Konrad Kording at Northwestern. CREATE CAN-ACT trainees are strongly encouraged to attend and the workshop is open to other trainees who are interested in attending.
July 6-12, 2013. CREATE CAN-ACT provided travel support for trainee attendance at the 2013 Gordon Research Conference and affiliated Gordon Research Seminar on Eye Movements, at Stonehill College, in Easton MA.
May 21, 2013: CREATE CAN-ACT is sponsoring a satellite workshop on Neuroscience Careers in Government and Industry in conjunction with the Canadian Association for Neuroscience meeting in Toronto.
March 8-11, 2013: CREATE CAN-ACT provided support for a Matlab Analysis FieldTrip Workshop at York University.
